BACKGROUND

Information: Men's dance from village of Codrenesc in Transylvania.

Source: Learned from Theodore Vasilescu at 1992 University of the University of the Pacific Dance Camp (now Stockton Folk Dance Camp).

Region: Transylvania Romania

Meter: 4/4

Rhythm: Counted with 8 dancer's beats per measure.

Formation: Men in circle facing CCW.

  Introduction.
1-8 Men move to position in circle.
 
1.   Figure 1.
1 Step forward on L ft and raise R hand forward (ct 1); lift R knee and slap R thigh with R hand (ct 2); repeat on opposite side (ct 3,4); step forward on L ft (ct 5); clap hands face high 3 times, stepping on R foot on last clap (cts 6,7,8).
2 Jump forward on both feet with knees bent (ct 1); clap hands 2 times (cts 2,3); jump forward (ct 4); clap hands 2 times (cts 5,6); jump forward (ct 7); clap hands 2 times (ct 8).
3 Repeat movement of Meas 1.
4 Jump forward with knees bent and arms back low (ct 1); jump into the air and clap hands forward high (ct 2); slap outside of heels with hands (ct 3); land with knees bent (ct 4); straighten knees (ct 5); clap hands 2 times (cts 6,7); hold (ct 8).
 
2.   Figure 2.
1 Face center and step to L on L foot (ct 1); begin CCW circle with R foot toward ctr; (ct 2); hop on L ft and complete circle with R foot (ct 3); step on R foot in front of L foot (ct 4); step to L on L foot (ct 5); touch R heel L forward diagonal (ct 6); touch R toe to R side (ct 7); close R foot sharply to L foot without weight (ct 8).
2 Repeat movement of Meas 1 to R with opposite footwork.
3 Repeat movement of Meas 1.
4 L hand behind L hip: Step forward on L foot and raise R hand forward (ct 1); lift R leg forward and slap inside R boot top (ct 2); step in place on R foot (ct 3); lift L leg forward and slap inside L boot top with R hand (ct 4); step in place on L foot (ct 5); hold (ct 6); lift R foot to R side and slap outside R heel with R hand (ct 7); step on R foot in place (ct 8).
 
3.   Figure 3.
1 Leap to L on L foot and lift R knee forward (ct 1); thrust R heel L forward low (ct 2); leap R on R foot (ct 3); leap on L foot behind R foot (ct 4); repeat movement of cts 1-4 to R with opposite footwork.
2-3 Repeat movement of Meas 1 two more times.
4 Leap in place on L foot and lift R leg forward to L (ct 1); hold (ct 2); leap in place on R foot and lift L leg forward R (ct 3); step in place on L foot and lift R foot to R side with R knee turned in (ct 4); close R foot sharply to L foot without weight (ct 5); hold (cts 6,7,8).
 
4.   Figure 4.
1 Lift R leg forward and slap inside R boot top with R hand (ct 1); lower leg & slap front of R thigh with R hand (ct 2); lift R foot to R side and slap outside R heel with R hand (ct 3); step in place on R foot and lift L foot to L side (ct 4); step in place on L foot (ct 5); hold (ct 6); lift R foot to R side & slap R heel with R hand (ct 7); step in place on R foot (ct 8).
