BACKGROUND

Yves Moreau Information: A dance.

Learned by Yves Moreau from a village dance group in Rabrovo, Vidin District in fall of 1971. This dance is popular among the Vlachs living in Northwest Bulgaria. The Vlachs originally came from Southern Romania and settled in parts of Northwest Bulgaria and Northeast Serbia. They speak a dialect of Romanian and their folklore combines Romanian and local elements.

Translation: To command

Pronunciation: Poh-roon-CHEEAHS-kah

Meter: 2/4

Music: RPC BG-1002, side B, band 3.

Formation: Short mixed lines – about 8 people. Face center.

Hand Hold: Belt hold. Left over Right.

Steps and Style: Knees bent slightly. Steps are small and close to the ground with a certain heaviness. Upper body is proud and erect.

Region: Bulgaria

Note: You are in luck, as I already had this dance, a perennial favorite here in Madison, in electronic form from teaching at Fall Folk Dance Camp for the Pittsburgh Tuesday Night International Folk Dancers in September, 1994.
