LINER NOTES
Boris Karlov was one of the country's most outstanding popular musicians and masters of the accordion. He was the son of Karlo, a well-known cornet player, and he was quite young when he joined his father's folk song ensemble. This was a good schooling for Boris, the future outstanding performer of folk music.
The songs and dance tunes of Western Bulgaria were dominant in the repertoire of the Ensemble, and young Boris soon learned most of them, acquiring a remarkable technique of performance at the same time. His exceptional musical talent was revealed to the full later on, when he took the place of his father in the Ensemble. Boris Karlov became one of the most favorite popular musicians and accordion players. His performances were heard all over Bulgaria; be it over the radio or at the concerts during his numerous tours of the country, he captivated his audiences by his virtuosity, temperament, and rhythm.
The style of his performance was also liked by his numerous foreign admirers who heard him during his concert tours of Germany, Austria, Czechoslovakia, and Yugoslavia.
Among his most popular performances are his "Ganka's Round Dance Tune," "Daychovo's Round Dance Tune," "Round Dance Tune of Graovo," "Kyustendilskoto," "Straight Dance," and "Rada's Round Dance Tune." His recordings account for a considerable part of the folk music programs of Radio Sofia and they are always eagerly expected by the lovers of this genre. Vergiliy Atanasov
