LINER NOTES

"My greatest joy is to sing and watch the faces and the eyes of the people – listening, thinking, fascinated by the song" – says Kalinka Zgurova.

"You could sing with great talent and with lesser talent; you could sing with a fuller voice and with a weaker voice, but you could not sing without love for the song" – Ruska Nedyalkova

"I am a singer from the Pleven region. I have enjoyed singing since childhood. My father and all of my relatives play one instrument or another, my grandmother used to sing very well. They say I take after her and I like to hear that" –– Vasilka Damyanova

It is probably this love for the folk song that has assigned them a place in the Choir of the Bulgarian National Radio Ensemble for Folk Songs. Each one of the three singers performs successfully as soloist in the programs of the Bulgarian National Radio and Television, in the concert halls. It is probably that same love for the music created by the people that united them under the lucky star Zornitsa (Morning Star) for a new morning, on the start along a road which has brought and brings them joy, success, satisfaction, recognition ...

Three refined and artistic singers with beautiful voices met together in work and singing. Their songs are excellent examples of the folk vocal culture of the people from the Burgas, Ruse, Pleven, and a number of other folk-ethnographical regions in the country, their work is happy and gratifying, professional and ambitious; work which brought them creative success, the joy and love of their audience, the attention of many composers working in the genre, who dedicated to them some of their compositions. Singing and working together they made a good team, balancing their ideas and sense of beauty and style, fused together their voices, developed their mastery of performance, increased the requirements in the selection of songs for their repertoire. It was in work and singing that they became friends and tempered their friendship. And this gave more life to their performances and their artistic appearances. – Rumyana Tsintsarska
