Canada

BACKGROUND

Information: A country.

Canada is a country located in the northern part of North America. Its ten provinces and three territories extend from the Atlantic to the Pacific and northward into the Arctic Ocean, making it the world's second-largest country by total area. Canada's southern border with the United States is the world's longest bi-national land border.

Various indigenous peoples have inhabited what is now Canada for thousands of years prior to European colonization.

Canada is a developed country and ranks among the highest in international measurements of government transparency, civil liberties, quality of life, economic freedom, and education.

Because Britain still maintained control of Canada's foreign affairs under the Constitution Act, 1867, its declaration of war in 1914 automatically brought Canada into World War I. The Great Depression in Canada during the early 1930s saw an economic downturn, leading to hardship across the country. War with Germany was declared effective September 10, 1939. The Canadian economy boomed during the war as its industries manufactured military materiel for Canada, Britain, China, and the Soviet Union.
