BACKGROUND
Information: A country.
The Czech Republic's official formal and short names at the United Nations are Česká Republika and Česko in Czech, and the Czech Republic and Czechia in English. The Czech name Čechy is from the same root but means Bohemia, the westernmost and largest historical region of the Czech lands and the modern Czech Republic.
The Czech adjective český means both "Czech" and "Bohemian." Czechoslovakia, or Czecho-Slovakia, was a sovereign state in Central Europe that existed from October 1918, when it declared its independence from the Austro-Hungarian Empire, until its peaceful dissolution into the Czech Republic and Slovakia on January 1, 1993.
On April 14, 2016, the government agreed to make Czechia the official short name.
