Anna played a significant role in the Folk Dance movement. A member of the Wandervogelbewegung German Youth Movement (GDR), she started collecting and publishing a great number of traditional folk dances in 1906.

In the German Democratic Republic (GDR) she was honoured as one of the great personalities of folk dance.
