BACKGROUND
Information: a country.
Liechtenstein, officially the Principality of Liechtenstein, is a landlocked German-speaking microstate in Central Europe. Liechtenstein is bordered by Switzerland to the west and south and Austria to the east and north. It is Europe's fourth-smallest country, with an area of just over 62 square miles. An Alpine country, Liechtenstein is mountainous, making it a winter sport destination.
Until the end of World War I, Liechtenstein was closely tied first to the Austria Empire and later to Austria-Hungary. The economic devastation caused by the war forced the country to conclude a customs and monetary union with its other neighbur, Switzerland. During World War II, Liechtenstein remained officially neutral, looking to neighbouring Switzerland for assistance and guidance.
By the late 1970s, Liechtenstein used its low corporate tax rates to draw many companies, and became one of the wealthiest countries in the world.
