New Zealand is an island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean, it is part of Polynesia. The country geographically comprises two main landmasses: the North Island and the South Island, and around 600 smaller islands. Sometime between 1250 and 1300, Polynesians settled in the islands that later were named New Zealand. New Zealand represents the southernmost extension of the vast Polynesian Triangle of the south and central Pacific Ocean.
