BACKGROUND
Information: A country.
New Zealand is an island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean, it is part of Polynesia. The country geographically comprises two main landmasses: the North Island and the South Island, and around 600 smaller islands. New Zealand is situated some 900 miles east of Australia across the Tasman Sea.
Sometime between 1250 and 1300, Polynesians settled in the islands that later were named New Zealand. New Zealand represents the southernmost extension of the vast Polynesian Triangle of the south and central Pacific Ocean.
New Zealand is a developed country and ranks highly in international comparisons of national performance, such as quality of life, health, education, and economic freedom.
Early in the 20th century, New Zealand was involved in world affairs, fighting in the First and Second World Wars and suffering through the Great Depression.
