Information: Shorashim is composed of dancers dedicated to preserving and perpetuating the first generation of Israeli folk dances. These dances evolved during the creation and building of Israel – from the pre-independence era to the reunification of Jerusalem and the post-Six Day War period. The folk dances of this generation reflect an energy level, spirit and optimism unique in the Jewish cultural experience.

Founded in 1987, they focused on the first generation of Israeli folk dances for several years but gradually expanded the repertoire to include selected classics from the 1970s through the mid-1990s that reflect the spirit of the earlier dances.

Shorashim is held at Bridge for Dance in Manhattan, New York in August/September.
