BACKGROUND
Information: Sari Suokas, teacher of Finnish dance.
Sari Suokas is a teacher and specialist of Finnish folkdances. Also active as a community educator, she holds a Barchelor degree in civic activity and youth work.
Sari started to dance when she was five years old and has been teaching folkdances for more than 30 years. With her prior folkdance ensemble Potpuri she traveled all over the world performing at different folkdance festivals. Much in demand as a dance teacher, she has conducted workshops throughout Canada, Italy, Russia, Scandinavia, Slovenia, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Turkey, and the United States.
Sari teaches all kinds of Finnish folkdances. She is particularly fond of Karelian (eastern Finland) folkdances which give dancers more liberty to improvise within each dance figure. Her teaching style is cheerful, supportive, detailed, and full of energy. Sari speaks English fluently.
She was a board member of the Folklore Suomi Finland organization (1991-2004) and a member of the National Costume Council of Finland (1987-2010). She has also been an adjudicator at many folkdance competitions held in Finland (1988-2013).
Sari lives in Vantaa, Finland with her husband Heikki Vuojakoski.
